Summary

Nothing ever happens to Ralph。 So every day when it’s time to write stories, Ralph thinks really hard。 He stares at his paper。 He stares at the ceiling。 But he has no stories! With the help of his classmates, Ralph realizes that a great story can be about something very little…and that maybe he really does have some stories to tell。 Debut author/illustrator Abby Hanlon’s endearing text and charming watercolor and colored pencil illustrations prove that writing can be fun! This story works nicely with Lucy Calkins’ Writer’s Workshop model of teaching。

Ralph can't write stories during his lessons, he can't think of anything that happened to him!The boy sees the other children full of them, eager to share their stories, but he just doesn't see how he can write one。。。 But things change after he remembers when an inchworm crawled Ralph's knee and the students from his class start asking questions!I really enjoyed the story and the illustrations, specially the ending where we can see Ralph's new stories, funny, funny!Good to get kids confident abo Ralph can't write stories during his lessons, he can't think of anything that happened to him!The boy sees the other children full of them, eager to share their stories, but he just doesn't see how he can write one。。。 But things change after he remembers when an inchworm crawled Ralph's knee and the students from his class start asking questions!I really enjoyed the story and the illustrations, specially the ending where we can see Ralph's new stories, funny, funny!Good to get kids confident about writing their own。 😊 。。。more

This is a very sweet picture book about how stories are everywhere, if you just notice them。

4。5 So cute! I love kidlit about storytelling。 The drawings are very sketchy and scratchy in a way that I think would be funny and/or approachable for children trying to draw their own stories。

Lucy Calkins would LOVE this story that shares how to find “small moment” stories to tell and write!

My son is right at the point where he is going to start writing stories independently。 This book is great for helping kids who might struggle with "writers block" find the inspiration to put something down on paper。 Short, sweet and purposeful。 My son is right at the point where he is going to start writing stories independently。 This book is great for helping kids who might struggle with "writers block" find the inspiration to put something down on paper。 Short, sweet and purposeful。 。。。more

Very funny book titlesThis book has very funny pictures and book titles。 The story also taught us how not to be embarrassed and you will always find ideas if you observe and look around you。

This book is the cutest thing。 I love the stick figure drawings, and as a writer myself I felt for poor little Ralph and his first experience with block。 I rooted for him from the start, and found myself yelling at the screen, so to speak, like a patron in a silent movie。 "But you're telling a story right now!" And the "writing rules" at the end was just priceless。 This book is the cutest thing。 I love the stick figure drawings, and as a writer myself I felt for poor little Ralph and his first experience with block。 I rooted for him from the start, and found myself yelling at the screen, so to speak, like a patron in a silent movie。 "But you're telling a story right now!" Genre: Realistic FictionAges: K-2ndThis is a great book to encourage and inspire children to become storytellers。 Ralph struggles but he perseveres。 His teacher exclaims that stories are everywhere! Ralph is unable to find them。 It provides great insight into the mind of a struggling writer。 I loved that his classmate helped him realize that he is always a part of a story。 The illustrations were so simple but cute。 Very relatable book!

Realistically funnyThis is what writing process in first grade is really like。 It's hard to get started but once you get the concept, thing really flow! I would recommend that K-2 teachers read this to class before starting the writing process。 It might save a lot of grief! Writing a story can be a daunting task, just ask Ralph! This sweet and humerous story is the perfect read aloud for any primary school classes that are working on personal narratives。 Many students will be able to relate to Ralph and his inability to think up ideas to write about。 Ralph soon realizes that stories are everywhere。 This book is sure to engage and inspire young writers。

Wonderful! I believe children will appreciate this book for the story Ralph tells, and the fact that he struggles to find a story at all。
